Dutch sightseeing Sunday June 22

View from our hotel room
Patriots...
Our only real day sightseeing the Netherlands together.

It's the World Cup so everyone in Europe is soccer mad. So in The Netherlands this means everything is orange.

yeah right
Allan and one of many canals

Amsterdam has many things that are sooo Dutch.

Multiple canals, dodgy coffee shops, the red light district, funky houseboats.

One amazing thing is the bikes.  Amsterdam is full of them.  They have right of way and it is quite nerve-wracking trying to work out where to go as they and scooter on the pavements plus the traffic drives on the right and the trams bowl up everywhere.

One of our first stops was the Van Gogh museum.  Amazing how prolific he was.  I wanted to show Allan this as we would be heading to where Van Gogh did most of his painting in Provence.

After that was the Rijk museum which housed older works of the Dutch Masters.  Impressive building and impressive paintings and artworks!

I was particularly intrigued by this Collectors bos with hundreds of vials of curiousities.

Then to House of Bols.  A whole museum, gallery, bar, aromatorium dedicated to liqueurs.  My kind of place!

Back to the hotel (via tram) and then downtown for a glorious canal ride.  Good to get some sun.
Houseboats everywhere!

Enjoying the sun and the sights

After the cruise it was time for Kate to go and do conference stuff.  Afterwards Allan joined her and some other conference attendees for dinner at an Argentinean Steakhouse - nice!
