20 June 2014 - a very loong day

A restless start to the trip.

Kate's packing
Friday morning had the four of us at home (yeah!) with Rebecca arriving at 9:30 last night after Allan having spent most of the day driving to Massey and back to fetch her.

Finalised packing and shopping with Allan buying a new suitcase realising at one point we will need to use all of them in different places! E.g. us in Vanuatu, Ben in Melbourne and Rebecca going back to Massey.

Ninja star shot!

Rebecca’s birthday present for Ben was Ninja stars which was fun.  Rebecca scored an awesome shot.  The one after this destroyed the dartboard!

With some reluctance from the participants, I got some family photos, one, reminded me of one 10 years ago.

Arrived at Auckland realising the backpack I had was falling apart.  Took till Heathrow to replace – rather expensively.

LAX
By pure chance in the Koru club we ran into Kathy Nield an old mate originally from Allan’s schooldays and then all of us from Uni.  It was good to see her again and swap family stories.  On the plane came across Corinne Blumsky (Parks partner) on honeymoon and Christine Tse who used to work with Pete Brown at work.

The plane was brand new (2 days old) so some teething problems with seat not moving (ours OK).We slept a little on both of the major legs, had good food (gotta love AirNZ), watched movies yada yada.

Heathrow pub
Had to wait 5 hours in Heathrow for our Amsterdam flight, so shopped a little and took up residence in a British pub in Heathrow.  Talked rugby and got some restaurant tips for Amsterdam.

Snoozed heavily on the 1 hr. flight and arrived feeling zonked after 36 hours of travelling. First thing we saw was a traditional Irish pub in the airport.  Showered, went to bed, woke up, (damn jetlag) and had a broken night.

However we have a big chunk of Sunday to explore Amsterdam – which Allan hasn’t really seen.
